Prosthetic Orthotic

Job Description

Assess patients' physical condition, mobility, and functional needs to develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and the rehabilitation team. Design, measure, fabricate, fit, and adjust prosthetic limbs and orthotic devices to meet patients' specific requirements. Provide gait training and educate patients on the proper use and care of prosthetic and orthotic devices to ensure optimal functionality and independence. Perform repairs, modifications, and maintenance of assistive devices to extend their lifespan and effectiveness. Monitor patients' progress and make necessary adjustments to devices as needed, ensuring continuous improvement in their quality of life. Maintain accurate patient records, clinical documentation, and treatment reports to comply with healthcare standards and facilitate continuity of care. Work collaboratively with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive rehabilitation services. Ensure patient safety and infection prevention during all clinical and workshop procedures to minimize risks and promote a secure environment. Manage workshop materials, tools, and equipment efficiently to support seamless service delivery and operational excellence.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics or a related field; Registered or eligible for registration with the Rwanda Allied Health Professionals Council; Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in prosthetic and orthotic practice; Strong knowledge of biomechanics, anatomy, and physiology; Proficiency in designing, fabricating, and fitting prosthetic limbs and orthotic devices; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient education and team collaboration; Ability to work in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment; Familiarity with infection control and patient safety protocols; Experience with gait analysis and rehabilitation techniques; Proficiency in using workshop tools and equipment for device fabrication and repair; Commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to ethical standards in healthcare.
