The East Africa Regional Technical Advisor I - Polio will provide strategic technical leadership and support to AHF's polio eradication initiatives across East Africa. This role involves designing, implementing, and monitoring polio vaccination programs in collaboration with national health ministries, WHO, UNICEF, and other global health partners. The advisor will conduct regular field assessments to identify gaps in immunization coverage, develop targeted interventions to reach underserved populations, and ensure high-quality data collection and reporting for polio surveillance systems. Additionally, the role includes capacity-building activities for local health workers, advocacy for sustained political commitment to polio eradication, and coordination of emergency response efforts during polio outbreaks. The advisor will report to the Regional Director and work closely with cross-functional teams to align polio eradication strategies with broader global health objectives.

Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Medicine, Epidemiology, or a related field; Master’s degree is preferred; Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in public health, with at least 5 years focused on immunization programs, polio eradication, or disease surveillance; Experience working with national health ministries, WHO, UNICEF, or similar organizations; Strong knowledge of polio eradication strategies, including SIAs (Supplementary Immunization Activities), AFP (Acute Flaccid Paralysis) surveillance, and outbreak response; Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills; Ability to work in challenging environments and lead multi-disciplinary teams; Fluency in English is required; Proficiency in French or Arabic is a strong asset.
