WBG Pioneer - Communications Intern
Job Description
The Communications Intern will support media monitoring, social media management, and broader communications activities for the World Bank Country Office in Tanzania. The intern will report to the Senior External Affairs Officer and work part-time for an anticipated duration of five months. Primary duties include daily media monitoring in English and Kiswahili, producing a two-part daily media monitoring report (English digest and Kiswahili summary) shared electronically by 10:30 a.m. weekdays. The role involves tracking local and online media outlets such as The Chanzo, The Citizen, The Guardian, Daily News, Mwananchi, Nipashe, and Habari Leo, as well as social media platforms like Twitter (X), Instagram, and TikTok. The intern will use AI tools like WBG's mAI for search, translation, and summarization of Kiswahili content, and assist in social media strategy planning, content calendar maintenance, and performance reporting. Additionally, the intern will support results storytelling by periodically documenting multimedia results from World Bank Group-supported operations in Tanzania, including travel within the country to conduct interviews with beneficiaries and stakeholders.
Requirements
Enrollment in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program in communications, journalism, public relations, international development, or a related field; fluency in both English and Kiswahili (written and verbal); strong research and analytical skills; experience with media monitoring tools and social media platforms; familiarity with AI-assisted tools for content creation and translation; ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines; willingness to travel within Tanzania for fieldwork; prior experience in journalism, communications, or public relations is a plus.
