Concrete Pump Operator
Job Description
The Concrete Pump Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and productive operation of truck-mounted and stationary concrete pumps on construction sites. Key duties include planning, setting up, and dismantling concrete pump pipelines and accessories; coordinating concrete placement with site engineers, foremen, and batching plant personnel; inspecting pumping equipment before, during, and after operations; monitoring concrete quality to prevent blockages; and performing daily servicing, lubrication, and preventive maintenance. The role also involves maintaining equipment cleanliness, ensuring proper storage, completing operational records, and complying with Occupational Safety and Health regulations. Additionally, the operator may assist in training junior staff and support project teams to meet production targets and project deadlines. Experience operating additional heavy construction equipment is a strong advantage.
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years' experience operating concrete pumps on medium to large construction projects; proven experience working on multi-storey buildings, commercial developments, or infrastructure projects; experience operating additional heavy construction machinery (e.g., mobile concrete pumps, boom pumps, transit mixers, wheel loaders, excavators, backhoe loaders, motor graders, bulldozers, rollers, mobile cranes, telehandlers, forklifts, skid steer loaders, mobile batching plants, water bowsers, low loaders, dump trucks, mobile generators, air compressors); strong knowledge of concrete placing techniques and pumping procedures; experience working with batching plants and concrete production teams; strong understanding of equipment servicing and fault reporting; excellent safety record; KCSE Certificate or equivalent; technical or vocational training in heavy equipment or plant operation is highly desirable; additional mechanical or engineering qualifications will be an added advantage; preference for candidates with training in concrete pump operation, heavy construction plant operation, preventive equipment maintenance, Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), first aid, fire safety, defensive driving, risk assessment, environmental and waste management, equipment inspection and maintenance, construction site safety, and working at heights (where applicable); expert concrete pump operation skills; strong knowledge of hydraulic systems.
