Media Relations Associate NGO Job

This position is responsible for pitching GiveDirectly's programs and research to key media outlets and thought leaders, reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Media and Strategic Communications. The role involves cultivating relationships with journalists, editors, producers, and public intellectuals to serve as credible advocates for cash transfers. Responsibilities include media pitching and placement across traditional and non-traditional outlets (newsletters, podcasts, YouTubers), conducting in-depth research on reporters and media outlets to tailor pitches, and tracking progress from pitch to placement. Additionally, the role involves maintaining and improving internal systems, acting as the team's expert on AI-powered tools and automation, and supporting the broader communications team with media monitoring and roundup reports. The position requires a high bar for journalistic integrity and a focus on delivering compelling narratives that resonate with both media and public audiences.

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field; 3+ years of experience in media relations, public relations, or communications within a nonprofit or media-focused organization; demonstrated success in pitching stories to journalists and securing media placements; strong research and analytical skills with the ability to identify media trends and opportunities; excellent writing and storytelling abilities; proficiency in AI-powered tools and automation; experience with media monitoring and tracking systems; ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining attention to detail; curiosity about emerging media trends and direct cash aid advocacy.
