Chief Field Office, P-4, Fixed Term Position

The Chief Field Office (P-4) position in Mekelle, Ethiopia is a fixed-term role responsible for overseeing UNICEF's operations and programs in the Tigray region. The incumbent will lead a team of professionals to ensure the effective delivery of humanitarian and development programs, focusing on child protection, education, health, nutrition, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene). Key responsibilities include strategic planning, resource mobilization, stakeholder engagement with government and local partners, monitoring and evaluation of program impact, and ensuring compliance with UNICEF policies and procedures. The role requires close collaboration with regional and global UNICEF teams to align field office activities with organizational goals. The position demands a deep understanding of humanitarian contexts, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work in challenging environments.

Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in international development, social sciences, public administration, or a related field; Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in international development, humanitarian assistance, or a related field; At least 5 years of experience in a field office or similar setting, preferably in a conflict or post-conflict environment; Demonstrated leadership and management experience in a multicultural team; Strong analytical, strategic planning, and organizational skills; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Fluency in English is required; Knowledge of Amharic or Tigrinya is highly desirable; Experience working with UN agencies or international NGOs is an asset.
