GIS Technician (8 Positions)

The GIS Technician at Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is responsible for capturing and updating network asset data in line with approved standards and data collection plans. This role supports operations and project planning and execution through accurate geospatial data. Key responsibilities include conducting field surveys, network inspections, and maintaining records on the GIS system database. The position involves detailed inspection of the status and condition of Medium Voltage and Low Voltage network assets, identifying and reporting high-risk hazards on the network, and providing basic recommendations and corrective actions based on field findings. Additionally, the role includes conducting field surveys and scoping for network investment planning and project execution, capturing new lines and network additions, facilitating surveys for schemes, and preparing periodic reports. The GIS Technician must ensure accurate and well-maintained network GIS data and records on the GIS system database, facilitate or generate GIS maps and drawings resulting from surveys, and meet assigned targets within specified time frames.

Diploma or Degree in Geomatics, Surveying, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS); Experience in field data collection and geospatial data management; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Ability to work in a team and independently; Good communication skills; Knowledge of network asset inspection and hazard identification; Familiarity with Medium Voltage and Low Voltage network systems is an advantage; Valid driver’s license may be required.
