Programme Policy Officer – Gender & Protection

The Programme Policy Officer – Gender & Protection will work under the guidance of the Programme Policy Officers on Gender & Protection and AAP at the Country Office. The role involves supporting the Area Office with continuous context-specific protection and gender analysis to inform vulnerability-based and inclusive responses across the programmatic cycle. Key responsibilities include analyzing documents to identify entry points for advancing protection and inclusion of vulnerable populations, supporting participatory implementation and analysis of WFP’s programmes through field visits and engagement with local stakeholders, and strengthening Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) to respond to protection cases such as child protection, fraud, GBV, and SEA. The officer will also collaborate with the M&E team to mainstream inclusion across operations, provide technical support to programme staff and cooperating partners, and support the monitoring of the Gender and Age Marker (GAM) exercise. Additionally, the role includes aligning with corporate WFP policies and frameworks such as the Gender Policy (2022), Protection and Accountability Policy (2020), Disability Inclusion Road Map (2020-2022), and Community Engagement for AAP Strategy (2022-2026).

Advanced University degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition, Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or any other related fields; OR First University Degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training/courses; Experience in gender and protection analysis, programme design, and implementation; Knowledge of WFP policies and frameworks such as Gender Policy, Protection and Accountability Policy, Disability Inclusion Road Map, and Community Engagement for AAP Strategy; Strong analytical and communication skills; Ability to work in a multicultural and inclusive environment; Commitment to WFP’s values (Integrity, Collaboration, Commitment, Humanity, and Inclusion); Fluency in English (additional languages such as Somali are advantageous); Experience with field visits and stakeholder engagement.
