Rwanda Legal and Investigations Intern

Job Description

Seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented legal professional or recent LL.B graduate to gain hands-on experience in legal research, investigations, evidence review, and professional drafting within a fast-paced and dynamic operational environment. The role involves supporting case assessment and evidence management by reviewing new and ongoing cases, organizing case documents, and identifying inconsistencies or missing information. The intern will assist in drafting investigative tools such as interview questions, case summaries, and briefing notes, while maintaining accurate factual records. Additionally, the role includes conducting targeted legal research, synthesizing legal principles, and preparing structured drafts of investigation plans, progress updates, and legal memoranda. The intern will participate in weekly check-ins with their manager, receive mentorship and training, and engage in career reviews every one to three months to discuss aspirations and goals. This role is part of One Acre Fund’s Young Professionals Program, which offers paid internships with substantive work assignments supporting the organization’s operations.

Requirements

Foundational understanding of criminal law, law of evidence, and contract law; at least 3-6 months of internship or practical exposure within a law firm, judiciary, prosecution office, or other fast-paced legal environment is an added advantage; demonstrated experience in legal writing through coursework, research papers, moot court activities, internships or similar assignments; strong interest in legal and investigations work; willingness to learn, take initiative, and work within structured timelines and high-pressure environments; proficiency in both English and Kinyarwanda, with strong verbal and written communication skills required; working knowledge of French is an added advantage.
