Pharmacy Technician
Job Description
The Pharmacy Technician will play a critical role in supporting the Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) by assisting with the preparation, dispensing, and management of pharmaceuticals used in clinical research studies. Primary responsibilities include compounding and labeling medications according to study protocols, maintaining accurate inventory records of investigational drugs, ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) guidelines, and assisting in the dispensing of medications to study participants under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The role involves working closely with research teams, including physicians, nurses, and data managers, to ensure seamless coordination of pharmaceutical services within clinical trials focused on infectious diseases such as Malaria, HIV, and Tuberculosis. The technician will also be responsible for documenting all pharmaceutical activities, reporting any adverse drug reactions, and participating in study-related meetings and training sessions.
Requirements
Diploma in Pharmacy or related field; Registered with the Uganda Pharmacy Council; Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a clinical or research setting; Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical calculations and compounding techniques; Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP); Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills; Ability to work in a fast-paced research environment; Proficiency in English; Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office; Prior experience in infectious disease research or clinical trials is an added advantage.
