Medical Laboratory Scientist
Job Description
We are seeking four (4) qualified Laboratory Scientists to join our Malaria Molecular Surveillance (MMS) Project. The selected candidates will be responsible for conducting molecular diagnostic tests to detect and analyze malaria parasites, supporting surveillance activities to track malaria transmission patterns, and contributing to data collection and reporting for public health interventions. Key responsibilities include performing PCR-based assays, maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring quality control in testing procedures, and collaborating with field teams to implement surveillance strategies. The role requires adherence to biosafety protocols, accurate documentation of results, and participation in team meetings to discuss findings and recommendations. This position is critical for informing malaria control programs and reducing the burden of malaria in Rwanda.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, or a related field; Master’s degree is an added advantage. Minimum of 3 years of experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting, with hands-on experience in molecular techniques such as PCR, DNA sequencing, and gel electrophoresis. Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and data analysis software. Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to work in a team. Certification in Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) or equivalent is preferred. Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda is required.
