Nutrition Specialist (2 Positions)

The Nutrition Specialist is responsible for providing predictable, timely, and strategic coordination support for the nutrition humanitarian response in Karamoja and/or refugees hosting districts. The role ensures a timely and effective detection, referral, and treatment of children with severe wasting. Key responsibilities include maintaining and facilitating coordination mechanisms to achieve nutrition humanitarian response goals as outlined in the response plan and project document. The Specialist will coordinate with subnational stakeholders, including district local governments, to align work and priorities, ensure effective communication and reporting, and build complementarity among partner actions to avoid duplication and gaps. They will contribute to needs assessment and analysis, including joint analysis with partners such as WFP and UNHCR, and collaborate with local governments and partners to create analytical reports and response products. The role involves strategic planning at the subnational level, ensuring alignment with national priorities and policies, and providing technical support to local governments and partners to ensure activities meet community needs. Additionally, the Specialist will monitor, evaluate, and report on the coverage, equity, quality, and progress of the response against the response strategy, priorities, and agreed results. They will lead timely planning of response actions, including mass screenings, outreaches, and emergency preparedness efforts, and ensure all response delivery modalities (supplies, cash, vouchers, and services) are considered in strategic planning.

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or higher) in Nutrition, Public Health, Medicine, or a related field; Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience in nutrition programming, including at least 5 years in a humanitarian context; Strong technical knowledge of nutrition in emergencies, including the management of acute malnutrition; Experience in coordination and partnership building with government, UN agencies, and NGOs; Demonstrated ability to analyze data and produce analytical reports; Excellent communication and negotiation skills; Fluency in English is required; Knowledge of local languages (e.g., Swahili, Karamojong) is an asset; Experience working in Uganda, particularly in Karamoja or refugee-hosting districts, is highly desirable.
