Finance Assistant
Job Description
Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. The Finance Assistant will work under the general supervision of the Resource Management Officer and direct supervision of the Senior Finance Associate. Primary responsibilities include extracting and inputting financial data into accounting systems, responding to accounting and budget queries, assisting in payroll preparation by executing validity checks on monthly payroll results, and reviewing all types of payments to ensure proper authorization and supporting documentation. The role involves verifying vendor requests for accuracy and compliance with IOM finance policies, performing claim verifications against documentation, preparing receipt and journal vouchers, and assisting in the preparation of budget, accounting, financial, and statistical reports. Additional duties include managing petty cash, assisting with VAT refund claims to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), maintaining accurate records for audit purposes, and providing general administrative support to staff services such as travel and expense claims. Requirements
High school diploma with four years of relevant experience; OR Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finances, or related fields from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, E-mail, Outlook); previous experience in SAP/WAVE is a distinct advantage; Attention to detail, ability to organize paperwork methodically; Discreet, detail-oriented, client-oriented, patient, and willingness to learn; Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government, or government institutions in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage; Good working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Internet; Strong interpersonal and communication skills; Fluency in English and Swahili (oral and written) is required; All IOM staff must be fluent in one of IOM's official languages (English, French, Spanish).
