Accountant

Busitema University is seeking a qualified Accountant to join its finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and university policies. Key duties include processing transactions, reconciling accounts, managing payroll, and preparing budgets. The role involves collaborating with department heads to provide financial insights and support decision-making processes. The Accountant will also ensure timely submission of statutory returns and coordinate with external auditors during annual audits. This position requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work under tight deadlines in a dynamic academic environment.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Professional certification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is highly desirable; Minimum of 3 years of relevant accounting experience in a reputable organization; Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or Tally); Strong knowledge of Ugandan tax laws and financial regulations; Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills; Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; Experience in the education sector or public sector is an added advantage.
