Country Director

As Country Director in Burundi, you will be responsible for managing the impact-oriented Welthungerhilfe (WHH) country program. This role involves overseeing the development and implementation of the country strategy, ensuring adherence to WHH quality standards, and managing financial resources effectively. You will represent Welthungerhilfe in coordination with local decision-makers, partner organizations, and other aid agencies, while also acquiring donor funds both locally and internationally. Additionally, you will lead a team of national and expatriate staff, ensuring compliance with security regulations and developing preparedness plans for disasters and potential crises. Regular reporting to the Regional Directorate and Head Office in Bonn is required, along with maintaining strong partnerships with national and international stakeholders.

A university or polytechnic degree in international development, international management, rural development, agricultural sciences, or a comparable field; at least 10 years of project management experience and relevant leadership experience in international humanitarian aid and development cooperation, preferably in the region; sound experience in security/crisis management and working with partner organizations; relevant knowledge of German, European, American, and UN donor environments; coordination and organizational skills under high workload; excellent HR management skills and ability to work in a multinational team; excellent communication skills and intercultural sensibility; a very good command of French and English, both spoken and written; proficiency in German language would be an advantage.
