Explosive Ordnance Threat Mitigation (EOTM) Trainer (EOD / IED)
Job Description
The EOTM Trainer will assist the Training Team Leader in delivering specialized training to the FARDC (Forces Armées de la République Démocratique du Congo) in Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Improvised Explosive Device (IED) awareness, Conventional Munition Disposal (CMD), Post Blast Investigation (PBI), and basic search & detect techniques. The role focuses on practical training delivery, hands-on mentoring during training activities, and capacity building under the direct supervision of the Training Team Leader. The Trainer will leverage previous experience in delivering high-quality training in complex environments, including EHAT, ETAC, and search & detect courses, to ensure effective knowledge transfer and skill development for national security forces. Responsibilities include delivering approved training packages in accordance with IMAS, IATG, and UN standards, assisting in logistical and administrative preparations for training activities, maintaining training aids and equipment, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and contributing to training reports and documentation of lessons learned. The role reports directly to the Training Team Leader (EOD / IED) and operates in a high-risk environment in Beni, DRC, with travel required within the country as needed. Compliance with UN security protocols is mandatory.
Requirements
First level university degree (bachelor’s or equivalent) OR 3+ years of relevant experience in EOD / IED operations; military / police experience (NCO level or equivalent) with 5+ years in EOD / IED operations; 3+ years in EOD, IEDD, or high-risk search / detection (military, police, or UN context); IMAS EOD Level 3 or equivalent qualification (UN recognized); previous experience in delivering practical training to security forces or similar groups, particularly in high-threat environments; field experience in Africa with proven ability to adapt to complex security conditions (experience in the DR Congo is a plus); experience in mentoring & capacity building for national security forces; fluent in French (mandatory); advanced English (desired); strong practical training & mentoring skills with emphasis on performance under pressure; ability to work effectively in high-risk environments; teamwork & cultural sensitivity; attention to safety, detail & quality in all training activities.
