Engineering and technical oversight, managing contracts, monitoring the works and supervising the Defects Liability Period of the UNICEF WFP Common Premises - Mbuya

This role involves providing engineering and technical oversight for the UNICEF-WFP Common Premises in Mbuya, Kampala. The primary responsibilities include managing contracts, monitoring ongoing works, and supervising the Defects Liability Period of the facility. The specialist will be responsible for identifying defects during the Defects Liability Period, ensuring contractors address these defects promptly, and advising UNICEF on engineering aspects of contractor claims. Additionally, the role requires following up on structural integrity assessments, reviewing findings, and ensuring compliance with insurance requirements. The specialist will also support the development of Terms of Reference (ToRs), review project scope, solicit specifications from contractors, assist in contracting processes, and monitor the execution of improvement works valued at over 350,000 USD. Furthermore, the role involves coordinating with auditors and certifiers to ensure the building receives its Green Building EDGE certificate.

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field; Professional certification in engineering or architecture (e.g., PE, PMP) is an advantage; Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in construction supervision, contract management, and defect liability period oversight; Experience with Green Building certification processes (e.g., EDGE, LEED) is desirable; Strong knowledge of structural integrity assessments and compliance with building codes; Proficiency in contract administration and dispute resolution; Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills; Ability to work independently and in a team within a fast-paced environment.
