Job Description
The University of Kigali (UoK) invites applications for the position of Electrician. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, installing, and repairing electrical systems across all university campuses, including buildings, laboratories, classrooms, and student residences. This role ensures safe and reliable power supply while adhering to regulatory standards. Key responsibilities include performing routine inspections and repairs of wiring, lighting circuits, transformers, and switchgear; installing new lighting systems, power sockets, and electrical equipment for campus renovations or new constructions; ensuring all electrical work complies with safety regulations such as EICRs and building codes; diagnosing and repairing electrical faults in fire alarms, security systems, and emergency lighting; planning and executing small to medium-scale electrical projects, such as installing new circuits or upgrading infrastructure; and maintaining detailed records of maintenance work using computerized management systems. The role requires a professional and reliable approach to work in a dynamic academic environment.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or its equivalent; Electro-mechanical Engineering or its equivalent obtained from a recognized University; A valid state or regional electrician's license; Certified in safety procedures, such as OSHA 10/30 or equivalent, and familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) or local equivalent; Certifications to work at heights, in confined spaces, or with specific high-voltage equipment; Previous experience in electrical maintenance, installation, and repair in a similar environment
