Technical Sales Engineer

Job Description

The Technical Sales Engineer will play a pivotal role in expanding our safety and identification solutions business across Kenya and the wider East African region. This is a dynamic, hands-on role that blends deep technical product knowledge with strategic business development. You will act as the primary technical and commercial liaison for clients, ensuring they receive the most effective safety solutions to protect their workforce and assets. Key Responsibilities Technical Sales & Business Development: - Identify, qualify, and secure new business opportunities within key industrial sectors such as manufacturing, construction, mining, and oil & gas. - Develop and execute a targeted sales strategy to meet and exceed annual sales goals, leveraging existing client networks and hunting for new accounts. - Conduct in-depth technical consultations and needs assessments with clients, including EHS managers, plant managers, and procurement officers, to understand their specific workplace hazards and compliance requirements. - Prepare and deliver compelling technical proposals, Bill of Quantities (BQs), and tender responses that are tailored to client needs and industry standards. Product & Technical Expertise: - Maintain expert-level knowledge of the full safety and identification portfolio, including the following OEM brands: - 3M: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), respiratory protection, hearing protection, eye protection, and advanced safety solutions. - Brady: Safety identification, lockout/tagout (LOTO) solutions, pipe markers, labeling systems, and arc flash safety products. - Industrial Scientific: Gas detection and monitoring equipment fixed and portable gas sensors and connected safety solutions. - Provide high-level technical support and training to clients on product selection, installation, and operation for all products under the Brady and Industrial Scientific portfolios. - Conduct on-site product demonstrations, hazard assessments, and PPE audits to recommend appropriate solutions and ensure compliance with Kenya OSHA (2007), KEBS, and international standards (ISO, EN, ANSI). - Stay abreast of new product innovations, safety regulations, and competitor activities within the Kenyan and East African market. Account Management & Client Retention: - Build and maintain robust, long-term relationships with a portfolio of key clients, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and repeat business. - Act as the primary point of contact for clients, resolving technical queries, managing after-sales support, and coordinating with internal teams for seamless order fulfillment. - Develop and deliver customized safety training sessions, toolbox talks, and product induction presentations at client facilities. - Proactively manage client accounts, identifying opportunities to propose restocking plans, annual supply agreements, and product upgrades. Market Intelligence & Reporting: - Maintain a clean and accurate sales pipeline and activity log using CRM software. - Conduct competitor analysis and market research to identify untapped market segments and provide strategic recommendations to management. - Represent Amotech Africa at industry trade fairs, EHS conferences, and industry events to build brand presence and generate leads.

Requirements

Education & Experience: - BSc degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent field. - NEBOSH, IOSH, or a recognized HSE qualification is a significant advantage. - Minimum of 5 years of proven technical sales experience, specifically within the safety and industrial channel or the B2B safety supply industry. - Extensive experience with the Kenyan market and a verifiable track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets. - An established professional network among EHS managers, procurement officers, and plant managers is highly desirable. Technical & Professional Skills: - Value Selling Skills: Ability to understand customer financial calculations and project justifications to provide cost-effective safety solutions. - Strong Technical Acumen: Deep understanding of PPE categories, safety standards (ISO, EN, ANSI), and their correct industrial application. - Communication & Presentation: Exceptional communication and active listening skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels within an organization and across cultures. - Language Skills: Fluency in English and Swahili is required. - CRM Proficiency: Experience with CRM tools for pipeline management and reporting. - A valid Kenyan driving license with the willingness to travel extensively across Kenya and occasionally to the wider East African region.
