Health and Nutrition Policy Advocacy Intern

The Health and Nutrition Policy Advocacy Intern will support evidence-informed advocacy and programme development in child health and nutrition policy under the supervision of the Nutrition Officer. The role involves conducting desk reviews of national and international policy documents, research reports, and technical guidance; preparing policy briefs, evidence summaries, concept notes, presentations, and advocacy materials; supporting the planning and coordination of technical meetings, consultations, and workshops; and engaging with government counterparts, academic institutions, research organizations, and implementing partners. The intern will also provide administrative and operational support, including translation, editing, and formatting of materials in English and Mandarin. This internship offers practical exposure to evidence-informed policymaking, policy research and analysis, stakeholder engagement, and UNICEF programme operations, with a focus on improving child health and nutrition outcomes in China.

Be enrolled in an undergraduate (above 18 years old) or postgraduate degree programme majored in nutrition, public health, finance, governance, social science, or a related field; experience or coursework related to nutrition policy, health promotion, fiscal policies, or public policy analysis is highly desirable; strong analytical skills with the ability to critically review, synthesize, and summarize evidence from multiple academic and policy sources; experience in conducting literature reviews, desk research, or policy analysis through academic coursework, research projects, dissertations, or previous internships; previous experience supporting health policy research, programme coordination, or working with research institutions, government agencies, or international organizations is an asset; fluency in English and Mandarin is required; no immediate relatives working in any UNICEF offices; familiarity with UNICEF’s Core Values of Care, Respect, Integrity, Trust, Accountability, and Sustainability (CRITAS); demonstration of UNICEF competencies such as building and maintaining partnerships, self-awareness and ethical awareness, driving to achieve results for impact, innovating and embracing change, managing ambiguity and complexity, thinking and acting strategically, and working collaboratively with others.
