WebRTC/LiveKit Developer (Live-Audio App Audit)
Job Description
A live-audio broadcast tool for noisy environments (trade shows, sales floors) is being developed where one person speaks into their phone, streams via WebRTC/LiveKit, and listeners scan a QR code to open a browser stream anonymously—no signup or listener-side account required. The existing codebase was AI-generated (via Fable) and is untested. The role requires an experienced WebRTC/LiveKit engineer to audit the codebase, confirm technical viability, and guide it to production. The initial engagement (Phase 1) involves getting the codebase running, assessing code quality and structure, verifying the WebRTC/LiveKit audio pipeline functionality (broadcast, QR-scan-to-listen flow, audio delivery), stress-testing low-latency performance at scale, and verifying reconnection handling for dropped connections and network handoffs. The engineer must deliver a clear recommendation on whether to continue building on the existing codebase or rebuild. If the audit is successful, Phase 2 involves hardening the app for reliability (low-latency streaming, automatic reconnection, seamless network transitions), preparing and shipping the app to both iOS and Android app stores, and scoping additional features post-audit.
Requirements
4+ years of experience with Expo and React Native; strong hands-on experience with WebRTC and LiveKit in production; proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, and PostgreSQL; experience with EAS (Expo Application Services) for solo/production builds; ability to audit and inherit untested, AI-generated code and assess its salvageability; experience with app store deployment (iOS App Store + Google Play);
