On-Site Mining Engineer - Open Pit
Job Description
Our client is seeking an experienced mining engineer to lead a bankable feasibility study and advance an open-pit copper mining project from Detailed Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) to construction readiness. The successful candidate will report to the Project Manager and be responsible for open-pit mine planning, design optimization, technical studies, enterprise preparation, and site validation. The role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, practical, and implementable mining solutions. Key responsibilities include designing and optimizing open-pit mine plans, waste dumps, haul roads, and waste storage areas; developing and maintaining Life of Mine (LOM) schedules, pre-stripping, and early mining plans; optimizing stripping ratios, sequencing, fleet selection, and equipment productivity; coordinating mining plans with geology, geotechnical, survey, and processing teams; preparing drilling and blasting plans, fragmentation targets, and material movement schedules; conducting field inspections to validate mining plans and mitigate project risks; supporting drilling, mapping, sampling, and site investigation programs; preparing pre-stripping, starter pit, and preliminary mining plans for project execution; maintaining mining cost models, productivity assumptions, and investment planning inputs; conducting mining planning studies to enhance production and project profitability; ensuring compliance with local HSE, environmental, and mining regulations; supporting mobilization planning, standard operating procedure development, and operational readiness activities; liaising with project teams, contractors, consultants, and regulatory authorities; and preparing technical reports and planning deliverables for project execution.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering; Minimum 5-10 years of experience in open-pit mining; Proven experience in open-pit mine design and mining planning; Experience in drilling and blasting optimization, as well as loading and hauling; Familiarity with FS (Feasibility Study), DFS (Detailed Feasibility Study), or project development environments; Proficiency in Deswik, MineSched, Datamine, Vulcan, Surpac, or similar software; Advanced Excel skills for mining planning and cost modeling; Experience in copper or base metals (preferred); Experience working with mining contractors (preferred); Valid driver's license.
