Job Description
The multi-skilled carpenter will conduct carpentry and masonry works on new projects or refurbishments in residential buildings, office space, workshops, stores, or outdoors across the British High Commission Nairobi Estate. They will perform Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, fault finding, design, construction, and inspection of buildings and timber structures. Responsibilities include executing repairs safely, maintaining high workmanship standards, and adhering to FCDO quality standards, industry best practices, British standards, and Kenyan building regulations (NCA). The role involves routine maintenance, small project design, road/path construction, and collaboration with other trades such as plumbers and electricians. Working at height is essential, and the carpenter must ensure safe scaffolding erection and PPE compliance. The position requires continuous self-improvement to maximize cost-effectiveness, safety adherence, and construction excellence.
Requirements
Certificate in Masonry from a recognized government institution (preferably Government trade test III, II & I); 4 years of experience in carpentry and masonry; proficiency in stain-grade trim work, hanging doors, drilling and setting door hardware, setting windows, and using power and manual tools; ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and utilize appropriate mathematics skills; experience in scaffolding erection and inspection for works within 3 meters; knowledge of FCDO standards, British standards, and Kenyan building regulations (NCA); strong understanding of health and safety compliance and PPE usage; ability to drive and assist in material delivery across the estate.
