Sudan Country Technical Senior Specialist – Food Security
Job Description
The FEWS NET Decision Support Team (DST) is seeking a Country Technical Senior Specialist for Food Security (CTSS-FS) to support the delivery of technical outputs and represent FEWS NET in national and sub-national fora under the direction of the Country Technical Lead (CTL). The CTSS-FS will be responsible for conducting acute food insecurity monitoring, data collection, assessment, and early warning analysis, with a focus on granular sub-national food security analysis in high-priority areas. The role involves effective communication of early warning analysis to national and sub-national partners and decision-makers through high-quality reports, briefings, and participation in meetings. The CTSS-FS will collaborate closely with key partners, including host government ministries, UN agencies, and international and local NGOs, to build strategic partner networks and address gaps in early warning systems. Responsibilities also include regular participation in IPC/CH analyses, oversight of enumerators or key informants, data collection and collation, and coordination with other FEWS NET mechanisms. The position requires close collaboration with the CTL, CTM, and regional networks to ensure timely delivery of decision support products, including monthly Food Security Outlooks, Outlook Updates, Price Watch reports, and briefings to partners and USG stakeholders.
Requirements
Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in agricultural economics, economics, food security, nutrition, geography, or a related field; Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience in food security analysis, early warning systems, or humanitarian response; Demonstrated expertise in acute food insecurity monitoring, data collection, and analysis using tools such as the Integrated Phase Classification (IPC) system; Experience in collaborating with national and sub-national partners, including government ministries, UN agencies, and NGOs; Strong analytical skills with proficiency in quantitative and qualitative data interpretation; Experience in managing field data collection processes and overseeing enumerator networks; Excellent communication skills for producing high-quality reports and briefings for decision-makers; Familiarity with food security thematic areas such as conflict, markets, livelihoods, nutrition, and agroclimatology; Proficiency in using data management and analysis software (e.g., GIS, statistical packages) is desirable; Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable.
