Senior Avocado and Trials Coordinator
Job Description
Seeking an exceptional Avocado and Trials Coordinator with 3–5+ years of experience to lead tree nursery operations, technical training, and field execution in South Ethiopia, driving farmer impact through high‑value trees. Key Responsibilities Avocado Nursery Management & Operations (60%) - Oversee establishment, infrastructure setup, and daily operations of central avocado nurseries. - Support decentralized nursery operations for efficiency. - Ensure adherence to agronomic best practices (grafting, watering, pest/disease control). - Apply operational agility to resolve bottlenecks and standardize workflows. - Implement monitoring and post‑grafting verification to ensure survival rates and seedling quality. Southern Innovation Trial Execution & Management (40%) - Manage field execution and setup of non‑avocado innovation trials (e.g., shade net trials). - Design or adapt data collection tools for trial objectives. - Train and oversee field staff to ensure data quality. - Analyze and report trial data to inform scaling recommendations. Technical Training, Capacity Building & Resource Development - Conduct training for Tree Officers, nursery owners, and field staff. - Develop and update technical materials, toolkits, and SOPs. Coordination, Strategy & Field Mobility - Scope improvements within avocado and trial workstreams. - Maintain high field presence (50%+ travel) to audit sites and supervise teams. - Communicate program activities, targets, and milestones to internal and external stakeholders. Requirements
3–5+ years’ experience in avocado seedling production, grafting, plant health diagnostics, and smallholder farming systems; Bachelor’s degree in Agroforestry or Horticulture; Background in project management; Experience in field data collection and analysis; Proficiency in Google Sheets/Excel.
