Assistant Accountant
Job Description
The Assistant Accountant will support the Finance and Accounts Department in maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and preparing financial reports for Ibanda District Local Government. Key responsibilities include assisting in budget preparation, tracking expenditures, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with government financial regulations and accounting standards. The role involves collaborating with department heads to monitor financial performance, verifying receipts and invoices, and providing financial data for audits. Additionally, the position may require participation in procurement processes, payroll administration, and financial planning for municipal projects. The Assistant Accountant will work under the supervision of the District Accountant and contribute to the financial transparency and accountability of the local government.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a recognized institution; Professional qualification in Accounting (e.g., CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) is an added advantage; At least 2 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a government or public sector environment; Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or government-specific financial management systems); Strong knowledge of Ugandan Public Finance Management regulations and government accounting standards; Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills; Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines; Ugandan citizenship is required.
